Why is BMP maintenance important?
Stormwater management systems exist to help filter pollutants out of rainwater after a weather event. Through filtration, contaminates like engine oil, heavy metals and various sediments can be seperated from rainwater before it enters our streams, rivers and ground water. Regular maintenance of stormwater management facilities helps to ensure that these systems function properly and that they pose no risk to public safety. Recently, many municipal jurisdictions have been tasked with implementing and enforcing new regulations to ensure new and existing facilities are inspected and maintained in accordance with federal clean water standards.
